Chapter Twenty-Two

Get your wife back

I stopped off to buy her some flowers, and then headed to Vanessa’s apartment. When I pulled up, I thought, Wow, she has upgraded since she lived with me. It made me think about all the things Vanessa had given up to keep me happy. We could have had a better place but I always said I couldn’t afford it. I parked next to the elevator and then looked for her door. I knocked but there was no answer. When I knocked again, she came out of her apartment, but she wasn’t ready. She closed the door behind her, kissed me, and said, “You look very nice. Yum, yum, I could just eat you up!”

“Vanessa, why are you whispering in the hallway? And why didn’t you answer your phone when I called?”

“I have a little problem. When I got home from work, my plan was to get ready for our date, but when I got here Chrystal was here crying. I can’t leave her like this.” I just looked at her; I knew she could see the disappointment on my face. She said, “Babe, I am really sorry. I’ll make it up to you. I tell you what, I’ll make dinner for you tomorrow night, ok?”

Not sounding too happy, I said, “Sure, Vanessa.” I was so hurt. I couldn’t even say anything. I began to walk away.

She grabbed my hand and said, “I am really sorry, babe. I was looking forward to tonight.”

“It’s ok, do what you have to do. Just remember you’re my wife.”

“I will, babe. I’ll try to call you later, ok?”

I said “Sure!” As I started to walk away again, she came after me and kissed me very passionately.

“You I know I love you, right?”

“Yes, Vanessa. I love you too.” I drove home not happy at all. When I got there, Angel was eating dinner and Kim was feeding baby Carrie.

She said, “What are you doing back so soon? What happened? You didn’t piss her off already, did you?”

“No, her ex-girlfriend showed up at her house crying and she said she couldn’t leave her alone and that she would make it up to me tomorrow night by making me dinner at her place.”

Kim saw how disappointed was and said, “I’m sorry, Michelle.”

Angel jumped out of her seat came over and hugged me. I said, “Aww thank you baby, I love you.”

“Godmommy, you’re not going to cry are you?”

“No, baby. I know that makes you sad, so I won’t cry. Godmommy will be ok, I promise.”

Angel said, “Ok, but give me another hug just in case.” I love my goddaughter. She had such a big heart just as Carrie did. I remembered when Carrie would volunteer out at the gay and lesbian center. She was good at comforting the teens kicked out of the house because they were homosexual, or had run away because their parents pressured them into dating the opposite sex. Those kids loved her to the point where one young girls developed a crush on her.
